Digitally Painted, Self Portrait, 2019

Alyse Gamson

After earning her undergraduate and master's degrees in accounting and spending several years working in the corporate world, Alyse Gamson had a transformative experience living in San Francisco and decided to pursue a career in the arts. She attended the Academy of Art in San Francisco with a focus on fashion design and illustration and spent the next several years exploring the world of physical making.

Her career progressed from designing clothing and accessories to painting and fiber arts. Throughout the exploration of all media types she returned to a set of consistent themes that fascinated her:  bringing modernity to elements from the past, feminine strength, and nature.

In the early 2000s Alyse explored the tools of digital making and began her journey to becoming a digital artist. Slowly the digital tools replaced the physical making – first with t-shirts, wall decals, and children’s book illustrations, and then later with more sophisticated tools for 3D modeling and complex subject matter.

This collection represents the culmination of Alyse's journey both through the world of digital making and the inner worlds of mindfulness, meditation, and the transformation of self. Throughout all the themes the visual image of skulls has been a consistent motif of exploration and provided the ideal canvas on which to express her most recent thinking.
